At one point, Jane Doe 1 escaped, but she called Carter for help when she got lost and ran out of money, officials said. He picked her up and beat her with belts and belt buckles, and she worked for him until he was arrested on Jan. 14, 2013, for causing a 13-year-old girl to travel from Los Angeles to Las Vegas for prostitution. Carter remained in prison until late 2013 for prostituting the 13-year-old while detectives amassed evidence in the case involving Jane Doe 1.
Much of the evidence was attained through electronic records, including prepaid credit cards that Carter allegedly used to place photos of Jane Doe 1 on websites that advertise sex services.
Federal agents obtained a search warrant to get access to Carter’s Facebook accounts, which used the name “Pi Birdd” and “Garr Birdd,” and found that he explicitly identified himself as a pimp.
According to court documents, Carter described himself on these sites as a “Cross Country Pimp” who was employed by “Pimpin International.”
Carter also wrote: “I’m one of the reallest pimps left in the game. #1 gardenas finest pimping birdd. don’t doubt it, try it hoe. dig that?”
He also posted photos of women in groups titled “Birdd’s Nest.” Several of the women sported tattoos of a bird with the letter “B” or the word “Birdd.”
In response to an increase in child sex trafficking, the Angeles County Probation Department began a program in 2011 to combat the problem after identifying 174 sexually trafficked youth in the county the year before. Education programs and other preventive measures have since begun.
Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, whose district includes Gardena, Hawthorne, Carson and Compton, among other areas, has been involved in marches against sex trafficking. The next one will take be at 9 a.m. Saturday along Western Avenue, beginning at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in south Los Angeles. The area is popular for pimps.
“We cannot ignore this issue any longer,” Ridley-Thomas said. “Simply put, our children are not for sale. Predators must be stopped and victims must receive needed services and help. It is my mission to continue on this effort to eradicate child sex trafficking from our communities.”

Honduras, the second poorest country in Central America, has an extraordinarily unequal distribution of income and high unemployment. The economy relies heavily on a narrow range of exports, notably bananas and coffee, making it vulnerable to natural disasters and shifts in commodity prices; however, investments in the maquila and non-traditional export sectors are slowly diversifying the economy. These girls, boys and teenagers are offered up as "merchandise" in brothels, photographed nude for Internet websites, or forced to perform in live sex shows. Most are poor, and all are utterly denied their right to a safe and happy childhood. In Honduras alone, between 8,000 and 10,000 girls and boys are the victims of sexual exploitation, according to a still unpublished Casa Alianza study conducted last year in Honduras , Guatemala and Nicaragua .

INCIDENCE AND NATURE OF CHILD LABOR – There is evidence of child prostitution in Honduras , particularly in tourist and border areas. The U.S. Department of State reported that observers have identified over 1,000 victims in 2003. Honduras serves as a source and transit country for girls trafficked for commercial sexual exploitation. Honduran girls are trafficked internally and to the United States , Mexico , Guatemala , and other Central American countries for the purpose of prostitution. Children have also been reportedly trafficked to Canada for prostitution and the sale of drugs.

TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS – Women and children were trafficked into Guatemala and also internally, most often from rural to urban settings. The commercial sexual exploitation of children was a serious problem. As of October Casa Alianza estimated that there were approximately 10 thousand children who were victims of some form of commercial sexual exploitation. The Office of the Special Prosecutor for Children conducted 30 operations jointly with the police, the Honduran Institute for Children and the Family (IHNFA), judges, and Casa Alianza , to rescue victims and arrest and prosecute those responsible for these victims’ exploitation.
